FAQ’s

WHY IS THE AQUA TREADMILL SO BENEFICIAL?

Aqua training is a power and endurance training which allows the horses to work in a safe, controlled environment, without the weight of the rider.

The horses work in a straight line with water filled up to a suitable height. The belt can be set to incline, for effective uphill training. All these factors work together to create the optimal strength exercise for a horse. By moving in the water, horses are getting power training without the high pressure on their tendons and skeleton, this is ideal for horses in recovery. Also the way of moving is different. By moving against the pressure of the water, horses start automatically using more of their back muscles and rear part muscles which gives them a stronger top line, more balance and coordination in all movements. Walk is the best gait for aqua training, because muscle groups will be evenly trained and balanced.

HOW DO THE HORSES FEET DO WITH THE WATER?

We have no problem with soft walls or soles that you normally associate with water. The Aqua Treadmill uses a salt water chlorination system which assists in preventing moisture from being pulled from the hoof. As a result, the water does not affect their feet in any negative way and actually helps their feet get better and grow faster by increasing the sole depth due to the increased circulation in the digital cushion If you do find that your horseshooves are too moist for some reason, we find that the issue can quickly be resolved through application of corn starch or talcum powder to the clean
soles.

HOW DO I INTRODUCE A HORSE TO THE TREADMILL?

This unit is above ground and has see-through entry and exit doors. We recommend that you familiarize your horse with the unit by walking him up and into it, closing the doors and letting him stand. When he is standing quietly, open the exit door and walk him out.

Repeat this until he is consistently quiet in the treadmill and then you can begin introducing the treadmill in motion and the water. We find that an average horse needs to be walked through the unit about three times to get comfortable with it and be ready to exercise in the unit.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN THE TREADMILL BE USED TO TREAT?

The Aqua treadmill is a great tool for power and fitness training. It allows the horse to train muscles that is not possible to develop during a normal riding session. The muscle tone will increase and the horse will develop an even muscle mass. The Aqua treadmill is ideal to give the horse alternative training during competition season and it allows the horse to maintain good healthy muscles during off season.

For horses in recovery from injury or surgery, will have great benefits from working in the Aqua treadmill. By moving in water, the horse is allowed a good workout without the high pressure on tendons and skeleton.

DO THE HORSES PANIC WHEN IT STARTS TO FILL UP WITH WATER?

The salt water enters from the bottom and the fresh water trickles down the side from the rear of the horse. In both cases, the water enters the treadmill slowly and quietly so the horse has a chance to become accustomed to the water.

EQUINE SOLARIUM

An equine solariums infrared rays are absorbed directly into you horse’s skin tissue warming it in exactly the same way that the sun does, and it feels every bit as natural, healthy and comfortable. Solarium can help improve your horse’s performance and condition. The heat energy penetrates the skin into the underlying muscle and helps stimulate blood circulation, this improves muscle elasticity, therefore helping recovery from reduction of injuries. The generated heat increases the rate in which the muscles can absorb blood sugars and expel lactic acids.

This also helps for warming up your horses muscles before riding or drying your horse off after washing or sweating. The Equine Performance Center are exclusive distributors for solariums, produced to the highest quality by Equi-aid. Solarium can help improve your horse’s performance and condition.

HORSE WEIGH

Our horse weighing equipment is the same equipment used at the Olympics in equine disciplines and is the choice product of Her Majesty the Queen for all of her horses. It is important to understand what your horses weight is as it fluctuates in and out of competition season and with changes in your feeding regime.

This can affect energy levels, muscular development and ultimately how your horse performs for you.

  • It is non-invasive and user friendly
  • It provides instant data on secure network
  • A complete scan history is stored and easily retrievable
  • It provides a quick, accurate weight record
  • Guaranteed to +/- 1%
  • It is a quiet weighing and scanning environment
  • Horses do not need to stand still
FAQ’s

WHY DO I NEED TO WEIGH MY HORSE?

Determining what a horse weighs is the foundation of a logical feeding and management program. In addition to helping calculate daily intake requirements for hay and grain, accurate assessment of each horse’s weight is necessary for the proper dosage of dewormers and other medications. In mature horses, keeping track of weight losses can help identify health problems related to teeth (which become worn and need periodic floating ) or decreased digestive capability, either due to increasing age or disease.

It is also important to understand what your horses weight is as it fluctuates in and out of competition season and with changes in your feeding regime. This can affect energy levels, muscular development and ultimately how your horse performs for you.

HOW DO I INTRODUCE A HORSE TO THE WEIGH MACHINE?

Introducing a horse to the weigh machine is generally very simple. The green rubber floor together with a design that reduces sounds creates an inviting and friendly environment for the horses. Most horses will walk onto the weigh machine without any problems and if they don’t, we will allow them the time they require to walk on relaxed.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WEIGH A HORSE?

Our machine is designed to weigh a horse within a few seconds. All for the comfort of the horse.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I WEIGH MY HORSE?

We recommend to weigh your horse regularly. Whenever a change is made to the horses diet, exercise or environment, we recommend to weigh your horse at time of change and then again in a months’ time.

This is to ensure they are keeping a steady weight gain, weight decrease or maintain their weight according to what your goal is. Should there be an unintended weight gain or loss, we can catch this at early stages and find out the cause before any problems occur.

.

SADDLE PRESSURE TESTING

Saddle fitting is done using various methods and a well trained eye can fit a saddle well but has its limitations.
This method provides scientific evidence to make sure you know exactly what is happening on your horses back.

The Tactilus Equestrics® sensor is a matrix-based tactile surface sensor that works by the principle of piezoresistance. Tiny sensing cells cover the entire surface area of the sensor “skin” allowing for discrete spot pressure analysis at any point in the contact region.

The Tactilus Equestrics® sensor provides real-time data showing precisely where the pressure points occurs between the saddle and the horse.

A horse cannot perform optimally and utilise its back correctly if there is pain caused from an ill-fitting saddle. This is the point of contact between your weight and your horse so a huge amount of emphasis needs to be placed on ensuring that you have the best fitting saddle for your horses shape as well as your weight and riding style.

EQUINE THERMAL IMAGING

Our center uses veterinary grade thermal imaging cameras to identify heat in horses legs, joints or muscles. It is a fast, efficient and accurate way to pick up injuries or swelling in your horses early before too much damage is done.

Since there is a high degree of thermal symmetry in the normal body, subtle abnormal temperature asymmetries can be easily identified. A “hot spot” indicates inflammation or increased circulation. Hot spots generally are seen in the skin directly overlying injury. A “cold spot” is a reduction in blood supply usually due to swelling, thrombosis, scar tissue or increased tone in the nervous system.

( CLINICAL USES)

  • Detecting early lesions before they are clinically evident
  • Identifying areas not previously identified where further diagnostic tests should be performed
  • Monitoring the healing process before the animal is returned to work or training

Using a systematic approach to taking and interpreting the images, the following common conditions can be easily identified: Muscle Problems, Nerve Injury, Inflammation and Secondary Problems.

EQUINE LASER THERAPY

LASER is the acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation The treatment-lasers used are referred to as Low Level Laser, LLLT. Laser therapy has a number of different uses, the main use is to heal and speed up recovery time in all tissue injuries.

The light from the laser provides energy to damaged cells. LLLT works predominatelyon a protein in mitochondira (cytochrome c oxidase) to increase ATP and reduce oxidative stress. A cascade of mitochondrial and intracellular downstream effects lead to improved tissue repair and reduced inflammation.

  • Improved healing time and quality of tissue repair in wounds or soft-tissue injuries
  • Relieving inflammation (pain, heat, swelling/ edema, redness)
  • Trigger point/ myofascial and muscle pain relief
  • Acupuncture adjunct or in appropriate cases, substitution
  • Calming effect
  • Improved athletic performance
  • Easing back pain
  • Laminitis
  • Assisting sinus drainage
  • Increasing the immune response by activating lymphocytes (immune cells).

EQUINE NUTRITIONIST

It is imperative that anyone who owns or cares for horses have a basic understanding of the essentials in feeding and the nutritional needs of horses. It is import-ant to note that in a natural environment horses spend a great deal of their days grazing and foraging for food.

It is estimated that horses spend up to 18 hours a day in search of food. As a result the digestive tract of horses is uniquely designed to process small meals throughout the day. However, this fact appears to have little impact on the feeding of horses today. As you develop or evaluate the way you feed your horses you should consult a professional, qualified nutritionist to ensure that the nutrition you provide your horse with is correct and relevant to his breed, age, weight, level of work and discipline.

Our Equine Nutritionist, Lizzie Drury, has vast experience in her field and has consulted for Olympic Riders and their horses. She has a Bachelors Honours Degree in Animal Science gained at Reading University and a Masters Degree in Equine Science gained at Writtle University. She is also a Registered Nutritionist with the Association of Nutrition, Registration Number 584.

Equitron

High Energy Cell Treatment (HECT) for the health of your horse
equitron-pro is a veterinary medical therapy system that generates high-energy pulses in nano-seconds and induces it to the affected area by means of a treatment loop. In this way, the body’s self-healing powers are increased many times over.

equitron-pro has an analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. With the therapy, the body can eliminate inflammations much faster.

Thanks to the high depth of penetration of over 20 cm, deeper regions like the sacroiliac joint or hip joint can also be treated.
